2026 Lent Course

This year’s Lent course is based on Stephen Cottrell’s book called Godforsaken.

Seven chapters explore the depths of Jesus’ cry from the cross.
Each chapter gives much food for thought for reflection and learning during Lent and Holy Week.
Our weekly themes are:
-
Week One: Considers the challenge of translating the message of Jesus for today.
-
Week Two: Examines the significance of the opening line of Psalm 22.
-
Week Three: Delves into the experience of feeling forsaken by God.
-
Week Four: Discusses how Jesus, who showed pity for others, was misunderstood and abandoned.
-
Week Five: Reflects on the difficult reality of Jesus' death on the cross.
-
Week Six: Meditates on the concept of God being "forsaken by God" and the mystery of the Trinity.
-
Week Seven: Concludes by exploring how human suffering is encompassed within the Trinity and the new relationship with God established by the cross.
