Walshaw Community choir is looking for a new pianist to join us from January 2020.
Walshaw Community Choir is a local choir which started in January 2018. It is run by volunteers and is an initiative of Christ Church Walshaw; the choir is open to everyone and it is an outreach from the church with its main aim being to develop friendships and community. Whilst the choir works hard to improve and become more proficient, it is inclusive - there are no auditions and the overall feeling is one of having fun together whatever the singing ability. The choir started by singing fairly simple pieces such as Amarillo and Oh Happy Day, but has recently started tackling more challenging pieces with harmonies - a favourite is A Million Dreams. As most of the choir does not read music we learn the songs through repetition – making sure we have fun at the same time!
We meet weekly on a Wednesday evening in Christ Church from 7.15pm to 8.45pm term time only, and have on average 2 concerts each year. We have approximately 50 people who attend, with a weekly attendance of about 35.
We are looking for a proficient pianist to help us achieve these aims after our pianist moves out of the area. The person will need to be available each Wednesday evening during term time, and occasionally meet with the choir leader to help prepare for rehearsals.
If you are at all interested in joining our team, or would like any more information, please contact the choir administrator through the email contact and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Christ Church Walshaw Baby & Toddler Group during the building work
During the work in church Christ Church Walshaw Baby & Toddler group is taking place at Christ Church Cof E Primary School in the After School cabin. The session is slightly shorter that usual 10.15am - 11.15am. There is no charge while we are in the school.
Christ Church Walshaw church building is currently undergoing a major re-ordering so that it can provide a focus for activity for our community ... including our existing community groups including our baby & Toddler Group, Walshaw Community Choir and our monthly Drop In. We also anticipate it being a base for new community groups and existing community groups looking for a new venue.
We had a new heating system fitted last year, and this year we are taking the pews out, replacing them with modern stackable chairs, and we are building a modern kitchen and new toilets too.
Most of our pews were donated to a new local community social enterprise project, Radcliffe Community Benefit Society, which is running Radcliffe Market Hall. The project aims to provide an ethical alternative to mass produced supermarket shopping. Other pews were given to members of our church family many of whom gave donations towards the work on the church building.
The work will be finished at the beginning of December. However we are really please to share that our church family is now back in church for Sunday morning worship and for special events and services. We will be having an official launch weekend on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th January. On the Saturday we will be inviting our neighbours to come and have a look around as well as share with us in refreshments. And on the Sunday we will have the Bishop of Manchester joining us for a celebration service. For more information on these events follow us on FB or Twitter or keep an eye on this website.
Please keep an eye on our FaceBook and Twitter accounts to follow other variations in our community activities.
Here are a few pictures to share how things are going ...
